   Probably the “best” (in terms of quality, time, and ease of playing) way to learn any instrument is to see a private teacher once weekly. However, one of the beauties of guitar is that, although a private teacher helps a lot, it is not difficult to learn on your own.
   If you’re learning on your own, I recommend “Alfred’s Basic Guitar Method 1″. Go through the exercises until you get the basic idea. The songs in the book aren’t very fun and don’t sound very good, but they can be helpful.
   Once you get bored of that (which shouldn’t take too long), go to the back page of the book, where there is a chart of chords and the fingerings for them. Google chords for your favorite songs.
   For example, a search for “A Rush of Blood to the Head Coldplay chords” (one of my favorite songs) will come up with this:http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/c/co…
   Just remember one thing: Learning an instrument is never going to be easy. It takes a lot of time and effort to memorize chords (even for just one song) and figure out strumming and everything. If you get frustrated, give it a break and pick it up again later. It won’t be easy or quick, so don’t expect it to be. If you are having a very difficult time, a few lessons with a private teacher can get you on the right track.

   First I think having a teacher in the very beginning is important.
   Secondly you should learn some easy chords and songs to play as you learn all the basics of music.
   It can take awhile to learn scales and basic music theory. The songs will help keep your interest.
   The internet is a good place to find out about playing guitar but you should learn in a certain order and not jump from one thing to another without a direction.
   This is where a teacher in the beginning is very important.
   After you have the guitar basics down you can learn from many sources.

   Honestly, learning guitar can be as fun and as easy as you make it. There isn’t really a ‘best way’ to learn, just whatever way suits you, honestly. I could type all day and all night, but what I have to say might not help you.
   I’ve posted a link in my resource box that I hope will help you out and give you some directions with your position to learn guitar. I personally am a musician, and am in love with guitar and music in general.
   I would recommend learning a few chords, a few scales, and 2-3 songs and then going from there. Personally, chord work can be 90% of what it takes to learn guitar and you can get amazing from that alone. Work on that until you can do around 35+ chord changes in a minute. It sounds like a lot, but there are people who can do way more than that. I personally can do around 45-50 per minute without any trouble at all.
